About the Alexander Technique
People who seek out the AT are usually aiming to improve their posture, health, artistic or sporting performance and/or rid themselves of unnecessary pain or tensions. They often find however that there are even more wide-reaching implications in their lives as a result of learning the technique.
At a basic level the AT helps us to use our bodies with ease and efficiency, thereby promoting physical health and well-being. This "ease of use" is achieved by learning how to prevent or undo unnecessary tensions and habits, thereby allowing natural good use to happen. At an even deeper level the AT teaches mind-body-awareness and the ability to change ingrained habits through through awareness and informed choice of action.
Learning the AT is an experiential personal journey. Teachers use light hands-on guidance to help students explore their own response to simple everyday activities and movement patterns.
Balanced body. Balanced mind.
